Holiday Magic: How One Christmas Inspired a Glowing 3D Pop-Up Card
Two tiny green eyes blinked back at us from deep within the shadows of a bright red box, and eight-year-old me completely forgot how to breathe. It was 6:00 AM on Christmas morning. The living room was dead silent, the air still smelled like night-before cinnamon and fresh pine needles, and resting beneath the lowest branch of our glowing, tinsel-covered tree was something that shouldn't have been there. A tiny meow came from within the box.
That single, magical moment—the awe, the warmth of the glowing lights, the smell of fresh pine, and the delight of an adorable little kitten peeking out from a package—became my ultimate definition of Christmas.
The Mystery Under the Branches
In the days leading up to Christmas morning, my sister and I would sit by the tree each evening, watching the stack of presents slowly grow. Because my parents saved every penny they could all year to make the holidays special, by the time Christmas morning arrived, those bright packages filled the corner under the tree,
On that one special Christmas morning my sister and I crept downstairs before the sun was up. We looked into the pile of gifts under the glowing tree, and suddenly... an adorable, little kitten jumped out— it was a very special Christmas morning surprise that "Santa" had left for us!
That single, magical moment—the awe, the warmth of the glowing lights, the smell of fresh pine, and the delight of a sweet little kitten peeking out from a package—became my ultimate definition of Christmas.
Turning a Memory into a Keepsake
Decades later, as a designer sitting at my crafting table, I asked myself: How do I recreate that exact feeling of childhood wonder in a craft you can hold in your hands? That is how our 3D Christmas Tree Pop-Up Card SVG was born!
